Modelling the heart

computer modelled heart
  • Computer simulation of beating heart.
Modelling of the heart has been extremely extensive and detailed. Complex 3D finite element models exist which consider (amongst other things): fluid flow in elastic collapsible tubes (blood vessels); the electrical activity and mechanics of the whole heart; and coronary by-pass grafts. A host of other models have also been considered for specific modelling objectives (the simplest, and most common, being equivalent to a constant flow central heating pump).
